Materials & Dimensions: woodcut on Somerset; 10”x9”
Dragonflies represent some of the most ancient creatures living on Earth. The woods and waters of Wisconsin are rich with dragonflies in summer. The Odonata is an order of flying insects which includes dragonflies and damselflies; like most other flying insects they evolved in the early Mesozoic era. The Mesozoic Era is an interval of geological time from about 252 to 66 million years ago. Before dinosaurs and birds came on the scene, dragonflies ruled with wingspans up to two and a half feet. Despite changes since then, dragonflies are still around and fortunately for us they’re much smaller. This woodcut celebrates ‘dragonfly time’ (Odonata Khronos).
